ISAF rejects ISSA application |
23rd November 2011 |
| |
The Executive Committee of the International Sailing Federation ISAF has turned down ISSAs application for affiliate membership on the grounds that recognition (of ISSA) could be confusing in the ‘marketplace’ of sailing schools. ISAFs policy is that recognition of any training/sailing school should be through the Member National Authority MNA in a country. ISAF does believe that ISSA is doing important work for the sport, comments ISAF Secretary General Jerome Pels.

How to get a free 8 day wind & weather forecast for sailing anywhere in the world click on
When circumnavigating I found that Weatheronline provided the most user friendly, easy access wind & weather forecasts for preparing a voyage. On the ocean I downloaded GRIB files twice daily onto my PC via a small SSB radio receiver. This system requires very little electricity, always at a premium if you want the silence of solar only.

Circular to Sailing Schools from John Jameson |
11th July 2011 |
| |
I have been commissioned to progress the previously published Development & Action Plan 2011/2013.
For most of you who do not know me, I have just completed a circumnavigation aboard my 10m50 wooden catamaran - the fulfilment of a dream. I got the sailing virus when I was 14 years old and since then I have always been sailing. My first job was teaching sailing in dinghies and then aboard an old 25m gaff rigged converted sailing trawler. Since then I have raced dinghies, windsurfers and keelboats, coached international sailors, managed sailing schools, trained sailing instructors and coaches in many countries, and in all disciplines - windsurfing, dinghy sailing, keelboats and cruising. For many years I was a national sailing school inspector.
I am very keen to assist ISSA reach its global potential. The first project is to make the ISSA website international, which is not the case at the moment, being screended mostly in one language - English! An international website needs to be accessible to anyone, anywhere, wanting to learn-to-sail, to teach-sailing, to manage-a sailing-school and acquire accreditation, or to develop a national sailing school association.
To achieve this ISSA needs voluntary translators, who can file translations of new website section and updates, in their own language and alphabet.
If you would like to be a volunteer, or have a sailing friend who would like to be an ISSA translator for http://www.sailingschools.org please send to me, John Jameson, an e-mail to development@sailingschools.org.
A volunteer ISSA Website Developer, who would need to be a sailor, and have a good command of English, is also required.
Remember, when it’s the learn-to-sail season in the Southern Hemisphere there’s not much sailing school activity in the Northern Hemisphere. |
